How to Level for Your Stock Tank Pool

  • Pick your spot

    • Shade

      • Consider how much shade your pool will get. This will help you keep it cool in summer months.

      • However, if placing under a tree, make sure you have a plan to cover to pool to keep it clean and protect your equipment!

      • If you are placing the pool on a pre-existing patio, be advised most are graded way from the house so waterline will not be level.

    •  Level

      • The area your pool goes on needs to be flat with minimal to no slope

      • Remove any large rocks and anything that could damage the tank or cause lumps

    •  Proximity to power

      • You will need a standard outdoor GFCI within 6 feet of the pool

    • Proximity to side of house/fence for heated pools

      • If you are purchasing a heated package, you will need a mounting surface for the heater within 6 feet of the pool (such as the side of the house or a fence)

    • Decks

      • We do not install on decks unless there is confirmation that they were specifically built to hold that much weight (the weight of a filled tank is 6,000 to 10,000 lbs—heavier than a car!)

  • Draw out your area

    • You can use a string half the diameter of your pool to draw a circle

    • Place stakes or use spray paint to mark your outline to reference as you level

  • Level area

    • Options for leveling are to dig high areas down or bring low areas up using dirt or sand

    • To level with sand, it takes approximately 8 bags of play sand to level 1-inch for an 8-foot pool

    • Tamp sand down as much as possible with tamper or board to compact and make sturdy base

  • Check level

    • Use a straight-as-possible 8’ board with long level on top, check in all directions
