Deck the Halls

Adding a custom wrap around deck to your stock tank pool is the ultimate accessory. Not only does it look stunning and give you a place to lounge when you’re not in the pool, but it’s perfect for sitting and dangling your feet when you don’t want to commit to a full plunge. Also, say it with me: easy snack access. So what’s the process of working with a contractor to get one built? You came to the right place!

Our goal is always to make the process of getting a stock tank pool user friendly and effortless. Our pools offer plug-and-play relaxation with minimal maintenance required.  When you decide to get a deck built, we aim to take the stress of coordinating with a contractor and the details off of your plate.  From start to finish, here’s what you can expect:

Deck Contractors

We are happy to work and coordinate with any contractor you choose.  We do have a fabulous deck builder we have worked extensively with and can recommend. You will want to choose your contractor and have an initial meeting prior to purchasing your pool. After this meeting, the contractor will send you a quote for the job.  If you decide to move forward, you will then purchase your pool package and let us know that you will be building a deck.

The process

For deck projects, we typically recommend a two-step installation.  Once you purchase your package and tell us who you’ll be using for the deck, we will work with you and your chosen contractor to arrange a time to drop the tank. If you are using our preferred vendor, he is very familiar with the equipment we use and the requirements for access.  If you are using someone else, we will arrange with them to have a consultation at the time of the tank drop to discuss the specifics. After the deck is built, we will return to install all equipment, fill the pool, test the equipment, and give you your maintenance lesson. Remember that all of this information is also emailed to you in our maintenance packet and can also be accessed online on our members only swim party page.

Special Considerations

When building a deck, there are a few considerations.  You need to make sure that there is enough room for the equipment and hoses underneath.  You also need to make sure the contractor builds an access panel that is easy enough for you to get through when you need to change your filter, winterize your equipment etc. There are also building codes and permitting to consider.  In Austin, a deck does not need to be permitted if it meets all of the following conditions: is no more than 200 square feet in area, is no more than 30 inches above grade at any point, is not attached to a dwelling, does not provide egress from the dwelling, and is not located within a flood hazard area.

Also consider the filled weight of a stock tank pool (6,000 to 10,000 pounds). A deck must be specifically made to hold this weight and reinforced appropriately. While it is technically possible, cutting a hole in a pre-existing deck to place a stock tank pool is difficult and specialized. It requires extensive knowledge and planning, as well as careful reinforcement done at all support joists that were removed/cut through and is not a great option. We always recommend working with a trusted and knowledgable contractor to ensure your safety.

We are happy to walk you through the process and work with you to make it as easy for you as possible! Reach out for a free phone, FaceTime, or in-person consultation! Check out our Amazon list and the round-up below for our favorite accessories!
